What is PyreCast?
PyreCast is an easy-to-use, near-term fire forecasting decision support tool developed with funding from the California Energy Commission (CEC) Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Program (Agreement #EPC-18-026). Built with efficient software design and the latest wildfire science, PyreCast provides interactive tools and visualizations to help users understand wildfire conditions across California.
The platform integrates four major components:
Active Fires
View information on actively burning fires detected by satellite and aircraft heat sensing. PyreCast also provides five-day forecasts of likely spread patterns.
Risk Forecast
Explore modeled ignition and spread of hundreds of millions of hypothetical fires under the next five days of forecasted weather. This tool highlights areas of highest risk if an ignition were to occur.
Fire Weather
Access eight-day fire weather forecasts, updated every six hours, including:
- Temperature
- Relative humidity
- Wind
- Fire weather indices
Fuels
Visualize underlying fuel and topography inputs used by the modeling system.
